Child Development Practitioner (formerly E.C.E.) Childcare centers, nursery schools, self-employed daycare providers, family resource programs and facilities that provide early childhood education are always in need of Child Development Practitioners (formerly known as Early Childhood Educator E.C.E.). If you enjoy implementing daily activities for young children, educating young children through playtime, caring for infants and toddlers, leading children in songs, dance, crafts, reading stories, activities that will help them express themselves, or enjoy teaching them social skills then this may be the right career choice for you. Child Development Practitioners not only plan, organize and execute activities to pre-school and school aged children, but they also provide care and guidance. By leading children into activities they help to stimulate and develop their intellectual, physical, and emotional growth. Employment Requirements –Many employers will only consider candidates who have already successfully completed the Child Development Practitioner Training. This training can be done through colleges or trades schools. Program Requirements –Must be over the age of 16 with a Grade 12 or equivalent level of education. Passing a vulnerable sector screening and medical tests are an important requirement for this field as well. Average Rate of Pay – Depending on the level of apprentice for this career and the employer, the average wage is $22,000 to $52,000 per year. Job Opportunities –Ontario Early Years Program, Childcare Centers, Family Resource Programs, Nursery Schools, School Childcare Centers, Kindergarten Classrooms, and Self-employment. Current Opportunity –The Training Centre has received funding to provide Child Development Practitioner Training in partnership with Seneca College to local residents. Applications are still being accepted. Please call for an interview and let us help you start your career at no cost. |
